We all have that ONE friend. (You know who yours is, don’t lie.) Thank goodness for that person, because they help us put our own crazy in perspective. They help us laugh at ourselves, which we could all do more of.
My crazy friend is not crazy in the general sense. She’s incredibly smart and well-grounded in the reality of life. And most of the time, she refuses to let that reality define or control her. Maybe that’s why she amazes me. She dares to do whatever she sets her mind to, believing in her own power to make things happen and to handle whatever comes up. She’s pretty fearless.
Compared to her, my own crazy ideas seem, well, mildly outlandish. Maybe not normal, exactly, but acceptable. That’s awesome, because she gets me. I know I can say anything to her and she’ll listen without judging.
A few months ago we took another friend and our kids (all little girls) up to a tiny town in Texas for a dog show. (My friend has a purebred Havanese puppy that she rather spontaneously decided to enter.)
Conversation via text message a few days before the show:
Me, stupidly cringing a bit: “Hey, so this might be kind of dumb, but I think we all need fan club t shirts for the show.”
Friend: “Oh my God, yes!”
Me: “I’ll Cricut them. How about pink glitter vinyl?”
Friend: “LOVE it!!!”
Me, encouraged, about 5 mins later: “You know….I have some clear sparkle stones I use for the kids’ poodle socks…” (Irish dance moms always have gems/rhinestones/crystals at the ready.)
Friend: “THAT HAS TO HAPPEN!!!”
And that’s how we ended up, all six of us, glamming around the Glen Rose dog show in matching Gorgeous Millie Fan Club bling t shirts. And it was fabulous.
To be honest, I was quite sure we would not be the only group in attendance dressed that way, but we were. Ahem. Still fabulous. Glen Rose is still talking about us, I expect. (wink)
“Heather,” you say. “Your friend is not crazy, she is an enabler.” Well. Maybe she is. Still fabulous.
She makes life more fun. And I love her for that. Thanks, Jenn.
Sanity is SO overrated.
Happy Friday, dear readers, all 14 of you. Go hug your crazy friend.
Cheers,
Note: This is not a sponsored post. Who in their right mind would sponsor a post written by a person who makes glitter bling dog show fan club t shirts? Cricut, I’m looking at you…
